How Fast Do Old Men Slow Down?

چکیده
Abrtmcr-An important question in the study of aging concerns the rate at which people physically deteriorate with age. HOW much, for example. CB~ be physically expected of, say, a healthy, non-injured 75.year-old man or woman relative to what be or she could do at ape 4% This paper applies econometric techniques to data on men’s track and field and road racing remrds by age to estimate the rate at which men sknv down with asc. Eight track. eight field. and eleven road racing events me considered. The main econometric technique usad is a combination of the polytwmial-spline method and the frontier-function method. A number of the evetttr have been pooled to provide more et%cient estimates.

متن کاملThe age-related slowing of voluntary shortening velocity exacerbates power loss during repeated fast knee extensions.
Older adults are less fatigable than young during isometric tasks, but this apparent ability to resist fatigue is often abolished when dynamic actions are performed. These findings could indicate that the velocity component of dynamic contractions or the task performed is an important factor in explaining fatigability of older adults. However, it has not been evaluated systematically. The purpo...
متن کاملThe Effect of Intensive Endurance Activity on Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2C Gene Expression of Slow and Fast Twitch Muscles in Male Wistar Rats: An Experimental Study
Background and Objectives: Myocyte enhancer factor 2c activates the genes of the slow-twitch muscle, the muscle which plays role in endurance activity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a program of intensive endurance activity on MEF2c gene expression in fast and slow twitch skeletal muscles in wistar rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 14 mal...
متن کاملPerformance of electrophysiologic study in an asymptomatic patient with type 2 intermittent Brugada syndrome: To do or not to do?
Background: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an inherited channelopathy, which is associated with sudden cardiac death due to rapid polymorphic VT or VF. There is no definite consensus regarding the management of asymptomatic patients. Some experts advocate close follow-up; others propose the programmed stimulation for risk stratification. We aimed to evaluate the benefit of complete atrial and ventri...
